About the game
Noun Town Language Learning is a new way to learn a foreign language. You interact, listen, read and speak your chosen language in a hand-drawn world that regains its colour as you learn, testing your skills with mini-games and talking to the local villagers along the way. It is, first and foremost, a game - not a learning app with gamified elements, but a fully realised game that happens to teach a language.
From beginner to winner
Start from scratch and build up 1,000+ words and phrases across 12 languages, from English and Japanese to Egyptian Arabic.
No grinding, just gaming
Learn directions by driving a delivery car, colours by planting a meadow of flowers, and more, through purpose-built mini-games.
Speak like a native
Talk to 16 unique characters with speech recognition to nail tricky pronunciation, removing the anxiety of practising in real life.
Practise anywhere
Link your game to a noun.town profile and review your full spaced-repetition queue from any browser, phone or tablet - no Steam required.
Studio & research
Background for researchers and institutions.
SUPER HYPER MEGA is an indie game studio headquartered in London, UK, founded by Dr. Jack Ratcliffe. His PhD research into virtual reality and cognition revealed an opportunity to enhance second-language acquisition through gaming - and the Noun Town series was the result. Following the award-winning VR edition, the studio built a desktop version that preserves the same content and the same research-backed approach: learning through immersion, spaced repetition and play.
Boilerplate (for reuse):
Noun Town Language Learning is an award-winning language learning game from London indie studio SUPER HYPER MEGA. Built on research into immersion and spaced repetition, it teaches 1,000+ words across 12 languages through an explorable 3D world, purpose-built mini-games and speech recognition. It is available on PC, Mac and Steam Deck, and in VR and Mixed Reality on Meta Quest and Steam VR.
