Korean for English speakers Townhall · Lesson 2

Invitation to a diner

Suggest with -ㄹ/을래요 in Korean — 같이 식사할래요? (Would you like to dine together?) — for friendly invitations.

Conversation

  1. Rocky Rocky

카일 씨, 오늘 저녁에 우리 집에서 같이 식사할래요?

Kail ssi, oneul jeonyeoge uri jibeseo gachi siksahallaeyo?

Mr. Kyle, would you like to dine at my house tonight?

Tip: <오늘 저녁> = this evening (Literally, "today evening") <우리 집> = my house [Note] The word 우리 means literally "we", "our", "us". But, for possessive adjectives, it is very usual to use 우리 in stead of "my" (내) (for example, my sister = 우리 언니) <같이> = together <식사할래요> = verb "to take/have a meal/eat" (in suggestion conjugation)

  2. Kyle Kyle

    오늘 저녁은 이미 약속이 있어요.

    Oneul jeonyeogeun imi yaksogi isseoyo.

I already have an appointment for tonight.

    Tip: <이미> = already <약속> = appointment

  3. Rocky Rocky

    그럼 내일 저녁에 올래요?

    Geureom naeil jeonyeoge ollaeyo?

Then will you come tomorrow night?

Tip: <그럼> = then <내일> = tomorrow <올래요> = verb "to come" (in suggestion conjugation)

  4. Kyle Kyle

    좋아요. 초대 감사해요.

    Joayo. Chodae gamsahaeyo.

Great. Thank you for the invitation

    Tip: <좋아요> = "It's fine/good" <초대> = invitation
